Sri Veeranarayana Temple in Warangal

Sri VeerSri Veernarayana Temple Warangalanarayana Temple is located at Kolunapaka village at a distance of about 82 km from Warangal and 82 km from Hyderabad, capital of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is very ancient and was built around 1104 A.D. This temple is dedicated to Shri Veeranarayana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is one of the most famous Vaishnava temples of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is maintained by Archeological department now a days.  Significance of the temple can be understood from the fact that it falls in Pancha Narayana Kshetram of South India.


History and Architecture of Sri Veernarayana Temple

The temple is steeped in ancient history. The temple was in a period when Jainism was prevailing in Andhra Pradesh. People believe that the temple was initially built as a Jain temple and later converted to Hindu temple. Rulers of Kakatiya Dynasty built many temples in their time and converted many Jain temples in Hindu temples.

The temple is built in Chalukya style. Mahalakshmi and Sita Ramar can be seen in different sanctum inside the temple. Stone carvings in-scripted on the walls of this temple are magnificent. Sculptures of many Gods and Goddesses are situated within the premises of the temple.  Shiridi baba temple is also located at the back of the temple.

How to reach at Sri Veeranarayana Temple

The temple is located at a distance of about 1 Km from Kolunapaka bus stand and can be reached easily by road. Frequent buses from Warangal to Kolunapaka are easily available from Warangal bus station.

Restaurants and Hotels around Sri Veeranarayana Temple

Accommodation is not easily available here so it is best to stay at Warangal or Hyderabad and make it a day trip from with other excursions including Sri Someswara Swamy Temple and Jain Temple.
Some small shops and restaurants are available in Kolunapaka village to eat, but it is recommended to pack your own food before leaving your home or hotel.
