History of Warangal AirportThe airport was built in 1930 during the Nizam Rule by the last Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, along with one at Sholapur. The main purpose of the airport was to import and export cargo and consecutively helping industries in their business and trade. At that time Azam Zahi mills used to import and export paper nationally with the help of this airport. It has also served as an airbase at the time of Indo – China War. In the year of 2007, the Airport was again opened for the general public with limited connectivity and operates flights only to six major cities.
Amenities and Infrastructure of Warangal AirportWarangal airport was built on 1875 acres of land with a runway of 6.6 Km built for flights to come and go from here. One pilot training center is also located here along with a pilot and staff quarters. It offers baggage services for all of its passengers including wheel chair and escort for physically disabled persons, lost and found baggage counters, security scanners for baggage and free trolleys. There are facilities to shop and eat around the airport. There are many shopping places inside the premises of the airport with many restaurants, snack bars and food stalls to eat whenever you feel hungry.

Warangal Airport Authority was established after independence and is responsible for providing all the services including air traffic control and airport security. It also performs its duty of managing the control tower to monitor air traffic and schedules of all the flights. Flights to and from Warangal AirportThere is no scheduled commercial air service from the airport at the moment as the same is in developing stage only. The airport was reopened in December 2007 for the up-gradation of the same, which is still going on.
